The name Henrik Vibskov is not only associated with a fashion label; it is also connected with a multitude of twisted and tantalizing universes created in conjunction with each collection. Bearing fantastical names such as “Big Wet Shiny Boobies”, “The Land of the Black Carrots” or “The Fantabulous Bicycle Music Factory”, each title refers to a different, yet equally mesmerizing world and corresponding logic.
The accompanying multisensory and multidisciplinary shows have become a defining element of his brand.
Henrik Vibskov was born and raised in the countryside of Jutland, Denmark. He studied Fashion Design at Central St. Martins in London and has been active in film, music, and the visual arts for several years. He has been running his Copenhagen-based eponymous label since his graduation in 2001, and is currently the only Scandinavian designer to be on the official show schedule of Paris Men’s Fashion Week. Vibskov’s last ten collections have incorporated a womenswear line, designed in collaboration with his fellow St. Martins graduate, Maja Brix.
Henrik Vibskov’s designs reference traditional tailoring, yet his approach is unconventional and his clothing questions existing shapes; Vibskov’s use of new silhouettes rendered in innovative colour combinations has captured the European fashion scene, as well as the Japanese and worldwide market. Throughout his career, Henrik’s designs have won many accolades – such as Beck’s Student Future Prize 2000, Danish Design Council Award 2007 and Brand of the Year DANSK Magazine Fashion Award 2008.
Vibskov’s creative talent and energy is also channelled into his music and art. He has been playing the drums since the age of ten; at the age of twelve, he won his first prize at a break-dance competition, applying his knowledge of the drumbeat to the dance floor, and at thirteen years, he played live on Danish national radio. After leaving high school, a longhaired Henrik lived and played music on da streets of Europe with the “Later” Danish Grammy winner Marie Frank. He has subsequently appeared on eight independent record releases with various artists. Actively involved in the art scene, Vibskov has held exhibitions at numerous prestigious galleries and events worldwide including Midwest Tokyo, Factory Tokyo, Millbank Gallery London, ICA London, Sotheby’s Gallery New York, Palais de Tokyo Paris, V1 Gallery Copenhagen, Kunstraum Kreuzberg Berlin, and Hyères Festival France.
